Scroll Sawing

Scroll woodworking is quite different from cabinet or furniture making. It is not suited for those short on patience and those that cannot devote countless hours paying attention to fine detail. It is distinct category of fine wood art work.
Scroll and fret work are done by using modem, constant tension reciprocal movement powered scroll saw generating between 2,500 and 5,500 strokes per minute. In scrollwork one uses a very fine and thin blades in the thickness of a fine needle that by it's movement up and down cuts the wood.

Scroll work usually includes various intricate cuts producing and outlining various silhouettes or pictures on a variety of different woods. Fine scroll work is usually done in solid wood, but other cheaper materials may be substituted. Scroll items are usually done in wood from 1/8 to 2 inch thickness. I usually use 3/8 inches thick base wood and when finished insert it 3/4 inch thick contrasting solid wood frame.

Finished products then are treated by various oils and protective varnishes.
